How to get Glowing Wedding Skin

How to get Glowing Wedding Skin

Reach Your Wedding Skincare Goals

All eyes will be on you on your BIG day and you want glowing skin for the walk down the aisle, but how do you achieve this? We’ve got the inside scoop from Dr. Paul Lubitz — like when to schedule facials and treatments before the 'I dos', as well as beauty basics.

Four to Six Months Prior

Schedule a Visit with Your Dermatologist

If you have major skin concerns like acne and uneven pigmentation, it’s best to get the situation under control well in advance. In addition, brown spots, fine lines, pores, and redness can be attended to with lasers.

You can book resurfacing treatments like Cynosure SmartSkin CO2 laser. However, because it may require multiple sessions and several months to see their cumulative benefits, “you need to start as early as possible,” explains Dr. Lubitz. This is also the right time to schedule a series of derm-administered light peels or microdermabrasion on both the face and body—especially if your dress exposes the décolleté, shoulders, back, or legs.

To determine whether laser skin resurfacing with a CO2 laser is a good option for you, we would happily offer you a complimentary consultation.

If a laser isn’t your thing, we have a range of skincare products that can tackle acne and premature aging. The Obagi Nu-Derm System (when combined with prescription Tretinoin) is clinically proven to help address the signs of aging in all skin types.

In a study of the Nu-Derm System with Tretinoin, at week 24:

  • 96% of patients showed an improvement in dark spots and discolouration
  • 100% of patients reported it was “more effective” or “much more effective” than other medications they had tried
  • 96% of patients were no longer very embarrassed or very self-conscious about their skin

Dr. Lubitz and his staff have over 15 years of experience successfully utilizing Obagi Skin Products with their patients.

 "Shrink" Your Pores With Microneedling

We want to give it to you straight, so first, the bad news: You can't change the size of your pores. "The deeper a pore is, the bigger it looks on the skin's surface," says Dr. Lubitz. The good news: You can minimize the depth of your pores to make them seem smaller. "Microneedling, glycolic acid and other chemical peels will exfoliate layers of bad skin and minimize pore surface," Dr. Lubitz says.

Typically a series of 3 – 6 treatments is recommended depending upon your area of correction and concern. Treatments are usually spaced in 4-week intervals. Patients with deep wrinkles, advanced sun damage, prominent stretch marks, and significant scarring usually require 6 or more treatments to achieve their desired results.

Three Months Prior

Schedule Professional Facials

Your wedding is the perfect excuse for some extra pampering. You'll want to book monthly facials to really refresh your skin. Our experienced aestheticians at Art of SKIN will massage your skin, scalp and décolleté to stimulate blood circulation and keep your skin looking healthy. You can also request extractions, which can get all the dirt out of your pores. The process takes preparation and special techniques that, if done at home, can lead to irritation, or worse, scarring.

Our fave at home skincare products:

  • FIFTH ELEMENT advanced cellular skincare’s Pumpkin Cleanser has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties making it ideal for reducing black heads and pimples
  • GliSODin’s Advanced Skin Brightening Formula is formulated with nutraceuticals to promote an even skin tone and a healthy complexion

Two Months Prior

Wear SPF 50+...Even On Your Lips Protecting your skin from UV rays is a given but so easily overlooked. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, especially in windy weather, protect your face and lips. Keep in mind, it's easier to prevent your lips from getting chapped than it is to repair them if they're already dry and cracked. We love love love (like, really love) these mineral sunscreens:

Permanent Makeup Solutions Do your brows need filling? Do your lips need to be filled, lined, straightened, or rounded? Maybe you’d like to have eye liner applied. Save time on your wedding day with permanent makeup. Explore your options and what to expect by booking a complimentary appointment. Art of SKIN is an approved Non-Hospital Surgical Facility, we follow strict guidelines for sterilization procedures to restrict cross contamination.

One Month Prior

To boost your pre-ceremony glow, have your dermatologist do a gentle exfoliation, like a light chemical peel or a gentle laser treatment, says Dr. Lubitz. Compound the effects by drinking loads of water, getting adequate sleep, exercising, and maintaining a well-balanced diet. He also cautions against trying any new products or aggressive at-home treatments. Instead, wear extra sun protection, use a mild exfoliator, and apply moisturizer regularly to your face and body.

Reduce Sunspots With a Chemical Peel

Peels are designed to slough off dead skin and bring new, fresh skin to the surface. You'll want to book a series of peels to make the most of these spa treatments. In our practice, the most commonly used superficial peeling agent is glycolic acid (a natural product derived from sugar cane). Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is used as a mid-depth peeling agent and has been safely used in medicine for over 150 years. All patients will receive a consultation before treatment. During the consultation, we will discuss whether a chemical peel treatment is the best treatment option in your particular case, the areas to be treated, and the degree of treatment desired to achieve the best results.

Three Weeks Prior

Shampoo Your Makeup Brushes Every time you swipe on your blush with a dirty brush, you add a layer of acne-causing bacteria to your skin. Cleaning your brushes is easy: just suds them with shampoo, rinse them and hang them to air-dry with the bristles facing down. It will make your makeup colours truer too.

Three Weeks Prior

Make smart food choices Cut out salt, dairy, sugar, and bread from your diet. Oh, and booze too! It is all in the name of depuffing. Book a depuffing facial, “As much as you should avoid it, many brides end up trying to manage stress with wine that last week, which leads to puffiness,” says Dr. Lubitz.
